This phrase has been running through my mind all day....'Don't criticize someone else's life as a Christian because it looks different than yours.'
All too often I hear the remark "....and they call themselves a Christian" with an air of arrogance as if the person being talked about should live up to their standard of what a real Christian looks like.
Truth of the matter is we all fall short and we all have times and seasons where we stumble and fall.
I too have been guilty of placing judgment on someone else whether in my mind or verbally and it's awful!! So hearing this phrase echoing in my mind today was not only humbling but really got me thinking about how I perceive others.
We can't truly know what any person is facing or what they are walking through, what we see is just a glimpse of what they are actually facing.
What would it be like if we could be kind to one another, encourage always and look for a way to help someone else on their journey through life instead of pointing a critical finger.
We have the ultimate responsibility of being His hands and feet and extending love, kindness and compassion to those around us.
And if you happen to see something in someone else's life that you find 'concerning' take it as an opportunity to pray for them, bring it to Jesus, not your three closest friends = gossip.
It's amazing how many verses echoed in my mind along with this phrase, here are just a few of the verses. I pray that as you read them they encourage you to be a person of kindness, encouragement and love and at the very least they cause us all to think before we speak about someone else.
"If all you do is love the loveable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that....In a word what I'm saying is grow up. You're kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you. " Matt 5:43-47 MSG
"Don't pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults -unless of course you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging." Matthew 7:1MSG
"Every time you criticize you condemn yourself. It takes one to know one. Judgmental criticism of others is a well-known way of escaping detection in your own crimes and misdemeanours. " Romans 2:2 MSG
"If there are corrections to be made or manners to be learned. God can handle that without your help. "
Romans 14:4 MSG
"God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us. "
Ephesians 3:20, 21 MSG
"Make a clean break with all cutting, backbiting, profane talk. Be gentle with one another, sensitive." Ephesians 4:31 MSG
